Icefields Parkway: Part 2

Early the next morning, we set off to drive back to Banff via the Icefields Parkway!

We knew we wanted to visit the Columbia Icefields (a big ‘ol glacier) but we didn’t make any reservations for a glacier walk or the skywalk. That ended up being a blessing, because the tours for the day were cancelled and we would have lost our money. Instead, we headed into the welcome center, had a quick bite and took some photos. After some hemming and hawing, we decided to take the trek ourselves!

But first, coffee!

The trail to the foot of the glacier was packed, but it was large enough to accommodate everyone. It was also very, very long. Along the way they had (depressing) markers showing where the glacier used to reach. The glacier itself was epic (and freezing). We stayed until we got too cold and then we were on our way back, but not until a stop in Yoho! Post to come, stay tuned!
