Mount Edith Cavell

On our second day in Jasper, we woke up at dawn and headed out to Mount Edith Cavell -- a spot about 30 minutes away that features hikes to wildflower fields and a giant glacier foot. Since we’d already seen tons of wildflowers in Banff, we opted to go on the glacier trail.

The Trail

The trail to the foot of the glacier was well paved, with only slight grades, but it was a decent length. Once you got closer to the glacier you had to scramble, but it was easy and super safe.

The Glacier

I’ve been on a few glaciers before (in Alaska and Iceland) but I’ve never been entirely alone (well, except for Mike) and had the entire glacier to myself. It was so wild to go from a warm hike to a freezing glacier foot where we could literally touch the bergs and touch the glacial runoff (yes, it was freezing). Definitely a highlight of Jasper.

The entire drive and hike took about 4 hours, so if you end up wanting to do this, leave yourself some time!
