The Packing List: France Part Deux (!)

Yes, it’s true — I’m returning to the motherland (of Hashtag Jetlag), Paris, THIS MONTH!

After a trio of COVID-related wedding delays, my now-husband Scott and I will be taking our equally delayed honeymoon to France. I’m sure I speak for Jen, who will be going to Canada around the same time, when I say that getting the fuck out of this theocratic, rapidly declining, dysfunctional, POS country for a couple weeks is going to be a more than welcome break. I’m sure the bad news hits will keep on coming, but at least my phone will only get the alerts when I have wifi access.

While Scott and I are flying into Paris, our first leg of the trip will be in Amboise, a town in the Loire Valley, where we’ll do some château hopping. After that, we’ll drive to Biarritz, a beach down on France’s east coast in Basque Country. We plan to take a day trip to San Sebastian in the Spanish half of the Basque region, and then we’ll take the train back to Paris, where we’ll finish out the last portion of our trip.

All that is to say I need a versatile packing list for this trip. In addition to the city sightseeing like Jen and I usually do, there will be some fancy dinners, beach lounging, even surfing! Of course, this might mean I can’t pack as light as I’d like and squeeze everything into my carryon. BUT WHAT IF THEY LOSE MY LUGGAGE? The perennial dilemma.

Anyway, here’s what I am packing for France Part Deux!

With this trip, I’m packing clothes that can be multifunctional as well as chic (because France) and comfortable (because summer). To that end, I’m bringing lightweight summery pieces like these pants and these shorts. I’m also packing a lightweight rain coat in case of summer storms and a baseball cap to cover up any bad hair. For nice dinners, I’m bringing some flowy, semi-casual dresses and skirts in case there won’t be time to change between the daytime activities and nighttime meals. Some dresses may even double as coverups for the beach or pool. Accessories I am packing will also be multipurpose like this necklace that is casual enough for daytime sightseeing, but would go well with a dinner dress, or this packable straw hat that will give me shade at the beach while also being stylish enough to walk around town in. And finally, for the first time in my life, I treated myself to some actually high-quality bathing suits as well as a rash guard, mostly to keep the boobies in check when we go surfing (but also for sun protection).

Anything I’m missing?
