The Menu: West Hollywood

A couple of weeks ago, I traveled to Los Angeles for three days for work (on Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels — out April 26!).

On location in Malibu

Catching the sunset in Griffith Park

Though I wasn’t there for a long time, I knew that I wanted to eat well while I was in town. Here’s a few places I checked out between filming:

Guisados

Before I left for LA, a coworker recommended that I swing by Guisados, claiming they had the best braised tacos in the city. I can’t say that with certainty since I didn’t sample many others, but I can say that these tacos really hit the spot. The line was long (and happened to be across from famed PUMP and TomTom), but it was worth it. I also got the Arnaldo Palmer, which was delish.

I stopped here for a mid-day jetlag pick-me-up and snack. The vibe was pretty standard coffee shop -- nothing special, but the food and drink were decent. And it was definitely good for people watching.

I was looking for a place to grab brunch, and the concierge at my hotel (The Montrose) recommended this new(ish) spot. It was definitely VERY industry scene-y and sort of pricey, but the decor was gorgeous, and the food was really tasty.

I had some time to kill before my shoot one day and decided to wander down Sunset Blvd. until something struck my fancy. Well, that place was Fresh. It just looked like a bright spot to grab some healthy food -- and it was. The decor was super cute, and the food was prefect for lunch, though not SUPER flavorful.

I met up with some fellow MICAns here to catch up over tacos and margaritas. It was crowded, but not so much that I couldn’t hear everyone. I had a great time and would def recommend their guac.

When I told a friend that I’d be in LA for a few days and wanted to catch up, she gave me a few places we could meet up in Silver Lake (central for us both), and Botanica looked amazing. I mean, all the restaurants looked amazing, but this one looked especially delicious.

Silver Lake was a nice change of pace from West Hollywood, and the vibe of the restaurant reminded me a lot of a place in Brooklyn. I can wholeheartedly recommend the Turkish eggs and cardamom latte. I also got a banana bread to go for the plane, which was a very good call, if I do say so myself.

And of course, I had a green juice every morning at the cafe in the hotel and drank it by the pool on the roof. I mean, how could I not indulge my inner basic bitch while in LA?

Thanks to everyone who recommended a restaurant or took me out for a meal. My stomach and I greatly appreciate it! :)
