The Beach: Best Rehoboth Bike Trails

Being on vacation doesn't mean you have to stop your workout routine. Last week, my trip to Rehoboth included a run, loooong walks, and tons of bike riding. After my parents moved to their new beach house five years ago, we realized that Rehoboth (and Delaware in general) have tons of biking trails that we never took advantage of. So my parents brought our old bikes from Baltimore to the new house and decided to explore. Since they moved in, the trails have expanded, and they've gotten to know more of what Rehoboth has to offer in terms of biking.

Here are the trails we've explored so far:

Junction & Breakwater: Biking and Hiking Trail

With 16 miles of trail to ride, it's a great shaded route to the neighboring beach town of Lewes. The trail is filled with turtles, birds, the occasional snake, and tons of beautiful marshland. Once there, we usually grab a delicious brunch at Nectar and then bike back to the house.

Last week was my first time driving on this trail and I'm obsessed. It's actually a few connected trails that go from Rehoboth to Henlopen and winds through a wetland filled with herons, giant martian-like dunes, and a cliff overlooking a beach. HIGHLY recommend it!

Ok, so technically I've never ridden a bike here, but I have run it a ton. You can ride bikes here from sunrise to 10 a.m. year-round. Parts of the boardwalk are definitely wide enough to accommodate a few bikes, but other sections narrow, and it can get a little tricky. Just be sure to ride slowly if you choose the boardwalk view. You won't want to go that fast though, since you'll presumably be taking in the fantastic beach views.

After all of the riding I did during my last trip, I decided to take one of the bikes back to Brooklyn with me. So far I've taken it out for a few trips, and I love it! Can't wait to find some trails here in NYC.
