The Packing List: Out-of-Town Surgery

Alright y'all, this is my last post before I head to NYC for surgery Monday for my latest spat with my uterus, or more specifically, my endometriosis

You're probably not surprised to hear I am not as stoked for this trip as I usually am for visits to see my New York friend fam. But I also know I'm not the first to to travel for surgery, so I thought it might be helpful to have a different kind of packing list!

  1. adidas Women's Essential Linear Pants $32.35-$45 Amazon
Working from home has made me a big fan of athleisure these days, and since I've been told to expect an uncomfortable, potentially swollen belly postop, I'm packing a comfy pair of elastic waistband joggers. Good for both postop AND post gorgefest. #eatingpants

  2. Project Social T Relax Dolman Fleece $12 Nordstrom Rack
Similarly, I am and always have been a major whore for soft clothes, so a super soft, hug-like top is happening.

  3. Magnesium Citrate $9.45 Amazon
OK so the aforementioned gorgefest has to all take place by early Sunday morning. After that I'm on a clear liquid diet and later that day I have bowel prep ::cue menacing music::. I can't think of much crueler than being in proximity to my favorite food spots and having to fast while shitting my brains out, but I guess it's better than making myself vulnerable to septic shock, amirite? Or is it...

  4. Gummy Bears $11.64 5-lb Bag Amazon
It is well-documented on this blog how I feel about gummy bears, and what better reason is there to treat yo'self to comfort food than surgery? Levain cookies will also be graciously accepted.

  5. USA Today Puzzle Book $7.27 Amazon
Not that I didn't already know this but GODDAMN EVERYTHING MEDICAL TAKES SO FUCKING LONG. So I'm expecting some wait times and time to kill and I'm a nerd and I love puzzle books. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  6. Barnes & Noble Nook $59.99 Amazon
Yeah, I don't have an iPad or a Kindle because I'm *that guy* who bought a B&N Nook but whatevs, I've got reading to catch up on.

  7. Welty Eyeglasses $95 Warby Parker
No contact lenses during surgery, and I'm guessing I won't want to wear them after when I sleep my ass off.

  8. Support System Priceless
They don't exactly fit in my suitcase but I'm super comforted knowing my mom and Scott will be there. <3

See you on the other side!
