Best Of: Feminist Podcasts

What? You actually thought none of the podcasts in my "Best Of" lists would be feminist? LOL. Oh, you.

And it seems like since every man with even a SMIDGE of power and wealth thinks it's dope to just go around harassing and grabbing (and doing worse to) women, now is a good time to continue our feminist educations.

(These will also probably be great podcasts to listen to after tomorrow, pending what may very well be Alabama's choice to put a known child molester in the Senate.)

CALL YOUR GIRLFRIEND

Jen and I are ALWAYS putting CYG on our podcasts lists, because Ann Friedman and Aminatou Sow are the best. Like us, they are long-distance besties, and they are also great at mixing the high and low (a little less so these days because who has time for the Kardashians when a demented third grader is running the country). They are badass boss ladies and super smart about feminist issues. I've learned so much listening to them the last couple years with many laughs (and some tears) along the way.

MISANDRY WITH MARCIA AND RAE

"Misandry with Marcia and Rae" also made it onto my comedy best of list, but I think you can understand based on the title and art why they belong on this list as well. If you know me, you know that I'm a firm believer that humor will get you through the tough times (hence why I named my potentially cancerous thyroid nodule Donald Lump), and that's where Marcia and Rae fill a gap in a way that is desperately needed.

SLATE DOUBLE X GABFEST

Slate's "Double X Gabfest" hosted by Noreen Malone, June Thomas, and Hanna Rosin (the better half to David Plotz of "Political Gabfest" hosting fame) is my go-to for really understanding and putting into context all the shit going on in the world right now. They're super realistic and thoughtful and every time another piece of shit hits the fan, I look forward to hearing what they'll have to say about it. Recently they had a special episode featuring a conversation among three of Harvey Weinstein's victims, and it was incredibly powerful and heartbreaking.

STUFF MOM NEVER TOLD YOU

I discovered SMNTY a year ago, right at the end of the long tenure of brilliant hosts Cristen and Caroline. I was super bummed to hear they were leaving the podcast, though excited because they were moving onto build their own media empire like the bosses they are. That said, I was equally happy when SMNTY 2.0 started with new hosts, and this is another great one for delving into all the issues women deal with today as well as ones we've dealt with in the past.

THE BACK STORY

OK, to be totally honest, I am not sure if the hosts of "The Back Story" consider themselves feminists or if they consider their podcast feminist, but I wanted to include this podcast on one of my lists because it is SO good. And to be honest, all of the stories they've done so far, if not overtly feminist, definitely intersect with feminist issues and concerns. I heard it recommended on another favorite of mine, "Gastropod," and I am so glad because hosts Suzy and Claire are so good at finding interesting stories in the lives of everyday people and really bringing you into their journeys.

Alright my favorite feminists, which ones have I missed?
