Best Of: Comedy Podcasts

While Jen and Mike are off gallivanting around Italy, I'm back here stateside, doing what I've come to do best -- listening to podcasts and screaming at the sky whenever a Trump voter/apologist is quoted.

Of course, I continue to listen to my news podcasts, but the past couple weeks have been particularly bleak, even by 2017 standards. So this week I'm telling you which comedy podcasts keep me going and continue to give me life in the form of laughter, a valuable commodity in the Trump era.

WHO WEEKLY?

I've written about "Who Weekly?" before, and it never disappoints. And I say this as someone who is not particularly up on or into celeb culture. But that's the beauty of Whos. They aren't real celebrities, so I'm not the only one who doesn't know who they are...which is, well, what makes them Whos. And if you don't know, C- and D-list celebs out there living their best lives are hilarious AF.

WE'RE NO DOCTORS

In the past few months, I've become a big fan of Busy Philipps' Instastories. You might remember Busy from gem of our youth, "Dawson's Creek." On "We're No Doctors," Busy and Steve Agee (Outside Dave on "New Girl") basically just talk about their various physical ailments and things they worry are wrong with them. So in other words, they have a conversation pretty reminiscent of every conversation I have with my own friends. They're only a few episodes in, and they haven't failed to make me laugh once.

WAIT WAIT...DON'T TELL ME!

At the end of each week, I listen to "Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!" to see if I can get all the answers to NPR's current events quiz. It sounds boring, but the dad jokes are next-level, and I'm always impressed by the limericks. Plus, I always learn about lesser-known news stories, like last week's story about a robber who botched robbing his own workplace. When a coworker asked "Cleveland, is that you?" He replied, "No, it's not me." And I can't stop laughing over that.

MISANDRY WITH MARCIA AND RAE

For quite some time I have coveted this shirt, and I'm sure it comes as no surprise to our regular readers that misandry holds a special place in my heart. So when I heard about "Misandry with Marcia and Rae" on NPR's "Pop Culture Happy Hour," I subscribed stat. In Marcia and Rae's world, their all-female militia brings along "final wave feminism." It's the final wave, because there won't be any men left. REALLY, IN THIS POST-HARVEY WEINSTEIN ERA, IS THERE ANYTHING FUNNIER THAN THAT??!

LOVETT OR LEAVE IT

At the end of each week, I also treat myself to "Lovett or Leave It," the comedy arm of the Crooked Media family. Yes, Jon Lovett and his rotating panel of both comedians and experts, talk about the week in politics and news. But they do it in such a way that makes me feel better about things. Not in a false sense of security kind of way, but in a "at least I can still get a laugh out of whatever the sociopath dotard with the rapidly diminishing vocabulary did this week" way.

2 DOPE QUEENS

You already know Jen and I are both huge fans of "2DQ." Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson are national fucking treasures, and they never fail to put together a great lineup of comedians that comes to us via podcast. But aside from their lineups, the banter between them is laugh-to-tears quality.
