Lisbon: #TBT Museu Berardo

Fun fact about Lisbon that we didn't see coming -- there is an absurd amount of museums in Lisbon for what is a relatively small and quiet city. Museums in monasteries, museums in convents, one for ancient art, one for electricity, one for combat, and one for the Navy. There was even one for the neighborhood where our hotel was, Chiado, and you could walk through Chiado, border to border, in about seven minutes.

Jen and I love a good museum, and we planned on visiting one in particular, Museu Berardo, or the Berardo Collection. Full of modern and contemporary art, the museum isn't even 10 years old yet, but it's one of my favorites that I've visited. Despite the fact that it's housed in the massive Cultural Center of Belém, it's a pretty small collection -- easy to see in its entirety in under two hours.

And it encompasses everything I believe a museum should have. There's an easy pathway to follow so you don't get lost and risk missing something, there's free wifi, the way the art is grouped makes logical sense, and the descriptions on the wall give the art great context and the viewer a succinct but important mini art history education. Oh and it's free!

But best of all, I just really liked the art there. Here's a look at some pieces Jen and I enjoyed in particular.
