Most of you will likely recognize Budapest from such masterpieces as Katy Perry's "Firework" and Selena Gomez's "Round & Round," but it's so much more than a backdrop for a mediocre pop song. Before going to Budapest, I really had no idea what to expect. We arrived in the city after a short flight via Prague and my initial thought was: yikes. Coming from a (seemingly) uber sanitized city like Prague, Budapest was a shock to my eyes. Every surface seemed to be covered in graffiti and most of the buildings appeared to be crumbling. Of course, this was just on the cab ride into town. Once we reached center city, my opinion quickly changed. Budapest suddenly looked magical. There were castles, ancient ruins, and of course, the breathtaking Danube. That was just the start. Once we got to exploring, we experienced the fairytale-esque Fisherman's Bastion, an underground labyrinth, relaxing Turkish baths, galleries, and super hip "ruin pubs."
Budapest took me by surprise and really stuck with me; it's a top-five place of mine for sure. Between the lively art scene, rich history and hip vibes, how could I not love it? Did I mention the Turkish baths?!
