In celebration of the upcoming day when everyone ignores the fact that actually red and pink clash, we're throwing it back to the only true destination wedding I've been to. I've had to travel to nearly every wedding I've gone to, but only one couple I know had the genuine balls to have a real destination wedding in Jamaica (their wedding website was also titled "If We Don't Elope First). So because VDay is nearly upon us and because it is snowing in Baltimore and Jen is currently en route to Iceland where it is...um...icy, this post is dedicated to Steph, Subway, and hot, sunny days and steel drum bands in Jamaica, mon.
Steph and Subs, friends of mine from college, are true originals, and their wedding did not disappoint. We stayed at a relatively small resort and the wedding guests filled nearly all the rooms except one. Felt bad for *that* family.
So we basically took over the joint, and Steph and Subway made the long weekend such a blast. They are avid (read: insane) athletes (they did an Iron Man), so they organized a little "wedding 5K." Well. You know how I feel about running. It's well documented here that there are few things in life I despise more. But "run" I did, and by "run," I mean jog because once the unmarked race on the side of the half-paved road began, I was quickly dropped by the people who can actually run, but ahead of the people who opted to walk. Needless to say, I got lost and spent part of my time running (power walking) away from a local who wanted to know where I was staying. Since this is how white American girls disappear, you would think this might have improved my time, but no. It was balls hot even though it was 9 a.m. and only April. So I accepted my fate, gasping for air and sweating bullets, but eventually was able to scare him off by explaining that my boyfriend at the time was the runner way ahead who happened to also look Jamaican.
Thankfully water balloons greeted us at the finish line and the weekend only improved from there. As you can see, the setting was beautiful, the food was delicious, and I got a pretty solid sunburn because what trip to the Caribbean would be complete without one?
Steph, Subs...thanks for the memories. How about we all crash your anniversary this year and go back? Destination anniversaries anyone?
