I know what you're thinking. Didn't I just come back from vacation? Yes, yes, I did. But guess what? I'm hopping on a plane again because I just turned 30, bitches! And, as a 30-year-old, I reserve the right to take as many damn vacations as I please. At least as many as my budget will allow. ($150 R/T NYC-LA flights courtesy of The Flight Deal, what?!)
This time around, my boyfriend, Mike, and I are heading out west! After we see a few friends in L.A., we're driving out to Joshua Tree National Park to for some much needed R&R.
We're not exactly roughing it in our beautiful Airbnb rental, so we won't need any major camping gear, but we will be hiking, so I'm packing a few athletic pieces and, of course, hiking boots. Though I've never been to this area of California before, I have a vague idea of how drastic the temperature can turn once the sun sets. That means: LAYERS! Here's what I'll be bringing for our desert getaway:
Knit Sweater, H&M $19.99; Long Sleeve Flannel Check Shirt, Uniqlo $29.90; Ultra Light Down Jacket, Uniqlo $69.90; Women Denim Pants Leggings, Uniqlo $19.90; Multi Knit Scarf, Sole Society $34.95; Zandy's Bride Felt Fedora, Goorin Bros. $78; Modern Snap Backpack, Everlane $68; Hiking Socks, SmartWool $18.95; UDry Hiking Boots, Vasque $149 ; Thinsulate Beanie, ASOS $14.50; Elastika Graphic Tank, Nike $35; Nike Mezzo Active Leggings, Macy's $60
And, of course, I rarely go anywhere without a guide book.
Since this vacation is part road trip, part exploring by foot, mostly relaxation, I'm aiming for maximum comfort and ease. I can't wait to peep some weird ass trees, watch the sunset over the Mojave, and stargaze.
Thirty is lookin' good so far.
P.S. If you find yourself out in Joshua Tree, consider staying in The Joshua Tree House! It's a recently opened Airbnb run by fellow MICA grads who have an impeccable design sense!
P.P.S. There will be no U2 soundtrack on this trip.
