I don't know about where you are, but it's starting to get chilly here. Like rull cold, and Jen and I are beginning to dream about warmer climates. So for this installment of Throwback Thursday, we decided to throw it back for real -- like way back. Like antiquity back. Like ATHENS back.
When I did my semester in Italy in college, my friends and I decided to spend our spring break in Athens and then Santorini just because, well, we could. (Everyone should study abroad.) It was a quick flight from Florence to Athens, and I immediately fell in love with the city. I had one of those super surreal moments when I was like, "Holy shit, is this really my life?" We arrived in the evening, got to our super swanky (yet somehow affordable) hotel, went out on the balcony and looked up at the freaking Parthenon. Like I said, holy shit. I was so giddy, I started crying.
Athens is kind of filthy, and I got food poisoning there, but it didn't matter. It's the coolest city. There's a ton of really REALLY old and beautiful sights to see, there's live music and dancing on random street corners like an all-day-every-day block party, and they put french fries INSIDE their gyros! Up until I visited Paris with Jen, Athens was by far and away my favorite city that I've been to. So enjoy a little #TBT tour of Athens, and while you're at it, feel free to vote here for Hashtag Jetlag to win best new blog in the Baltimore Sun's Mobbies! Today is the last day to vote!
