Baltimore gets a bad rap. I'm just gonna tell it like it is. Everyone who isn't from here thinks it's "The Wire," and while I do think that gives this nerdy white Jewish girl some much-needed street cred, it really isn't all dirty cops and Proposition Joe. For sure it has its problems, and every time I hear my friendly neighborhood crackhead yelling something unintelligible outside I mutter to myself "...this fucking city," but it has some really beautiful moments too. So while it may not be everyone's top travel destination, it's a city worth considering.
In particular, this city knows how to bond over sports like no other. And I challenge you to find a stadium more beautiful than Camden Yards. It's genuinely one of my favorite places in the whole world, which I guess is lucky since I've spent over half of my professional career in various capacities there.
Today we spotlight our hometown because our American League East Champion Baltimore Orioles embark on the playoffs later this afternoon as they take on the Detroit Tigers in Game 1 of the AL Division Series. I'm so stoked, you guys. The "Orioles Magic" song is stuck in my head. I even rearranged my workout schedule for this *wink*. The O's haven't been this good since I was in elementary school, so I've been waiting for this day a loooong time. I was lucky enough to attend the AL East pennant-winning game a couple weeks ago, and I have a really good feeling about this postseason!
So here's to Charm City, here's to a baller 2014 season, and most of all, here's to the Baltimore Orioles -- these two Baltimore girls love you!
P.S. Big shout-out to Gary Epstein for some of this fine Baltimore photography!
